We are experiencing unprecedented demand for our services as well as managing staff sickness and absence. We continue to offer high standards of care in very challenging circumstances and have introduced new additional specialist clinicians to broaden the expertise in the building. However, demand is at an all-time high and we have been unable to recruit new GPs and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (NPs) despite advertising broadly.
As a result, current wait times to see a GP or an NP are excessively long and we need to find a different approach to ensure safe and fair access. From August we will be trialling a system of ‘book on the day’ only appointments with no pre-bookable GP or NP slots available, with phone and face to face appointments available only for that day . We appreciate this is a significant change which will have pros and cons but feel in the circumstances it is the safest way to ensure patients get the attention they need in a timely fashion.
Our excellent e-consult service will continue unchanged offering online access for consultations with GP’s and NP’s.
Practice Nurse’s, Health Care Assistants, First Contact Physio, Pharmacist’s, First Contact Mental Health & our Occupational Therapist will also remain unchanged and continue to offer pre-bookable appointments.
Across the board the NHS is under pressure and new ways of meeting need must be tried – we thank you for your patience and understanding as we constantly seek to provide the best service we can.
Work to replace our footpath started on 1st August 2022 . It is being done in sections starting with the bottom section first so patients will not be able to access the building from the back (car park end). Therefore you will have to walk around to the front entrance. Sorry in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
They will then do the middle section and then finally the front section.
Thanks in advance for your understanding.
Due to covid rates rising, we have made the decision that all patient facing clinicians will go back to wearing face masks.
We encourage all patients coming into the building to wear a face mask.
This is to protect the business continuity of Pickering Medical Practice, our staff and patients.
